Question for the Governing Board La Chat Meeting 2 June 1999

I would like to preface these questions with the fact that I am not opposed to the growth of the student population at our school. What concern and trouble me is what appears to be a complete lack of any study on the cost, to the foundation or the impact this would have on the current population. And what I find most worrying is the fact that this showed a total disregard for the opinions of us, the parents of the children at La Chat.

Questions:

  1. Length of lease for building in Mies?
  2. Cost of Lease?
  3. Cost of renovations to building in Mie?
  4. Would like to see the Bids (and not just one bid) for these renovations. I would like to see these in writing to ascertain if you actually asked for permission in advance of your decision to increase our population.

Is there a play ground, if not what is the plan for student recreation?

What is the potential to purchase and how much land is included?

Cost of transport to & from La Chat for Art, PE, Music, etc?

How do you plan on copping with sibling attending the Mie and La Chat? What is the cost of shuttling children back & forth?

  5. Cost of the bubble over the Tennis Court?
  6. Cost of Temporary portable classrooms (which have dreadful acoustics and mike it impossible to hear during inclement weather)? Again, I would like to see these bids in writing to ascertain if you actually asked for bids in advance of your decision to increase our population
  7. Do you have permission from the commune for all of these temporary improvements?
  8. Do you have completion date for these temporary improvements?
  9. Does the commune put a limit on the number of students that can attend the La Chat campus?
  10. How do you plan on coping with the cafeteria lunch lines?
  11. How much time do you anticipate the children have to eat lunch?

If you do not have answers to these questions, I am afraid I would have to say that you have done little or no planning in your decision to admit 96 students to the secondary school and an additional 6 classes to the primary school.

If you have not secured bids on the costs involved in all these temporary measures, money that could have been spent on permanent improvement if you had acted - not re-acted to this situation , then I think you have been negligent in the performance of your duty on the board.
