Organization Explanation

The Foundation

The administrative offices of the Foundation of the International School of Geneva are on the La Grande Boissière campus on Route de Chêne in Geneva. The Foundation has three campuses:

The Governing Board

The Governing Board is the highest authority of the Foundation, managing its affairs while ensuring adherence to the objectives of the Foundation as laid down in the Charter of the School. These objectives are based on the principles of equality and solidarity among all peoples and on the equal value of all human beings without distinction of nationality, race, sex, language or religion. In particular the Governing Board has responsibility for:

The Governing Board is composed of 3 members appointed by the Swiss Government;   members elected by the Consultative General Assembly (CGA); and co-opted members.   The Director General's position is paid (compensation package in public).  The elected parents volunteer their services.

Mr Jean Jacques Streuli is the outgoing Director General.   He has served on the board since 1982 and became interim DG during the last year while searching for a new DG .  Dr Donald Billingsley, the newly elected incoming Director General, arrived in the summer.  Since then and until the end of December Dr Billingley is observing while Mr Streuli maintains the position of DG -  a period of overlap during which Mr Streuli and Dr Billingsley work together, permitting a smooth hand-over of management.

The Consultative General Assembly

The CGA is composed of all parents of students registered with the Foundation, Board members (past and present), all salaried staff of the Foundation and former students and staff of the Foundation. It is convened by the Board before the end of May each year to consider the Annual Report, elect new members (this can be done by mail) and to discuss and make suggestions to the Board on any relevant issues. Details of the venue and agenda are communicated to all parents and staff in advance.

(Minutes of meetings available at Secondary Reception).

The Parent Teacher Association

Who we are

All parents and staff at La Chat are members of the Parent Teacher Association. It is run by an Executive Committee which is, in theory, elected at the AGM each year.   Minutes of PTA meetings are available at Secondary Reception.

Our aims

The aims of the association are to encourage communication between the various sections of the school community, to promote and organise social activities within the school, and to raise funds.

Main events during the year

The PTA organises several fund-raising and social events: Cheese & Wine Party, Winter Swap Sale, Hallowe’en, Marché St Nicolas, Car Boot Sale, Kermesse.

We allocate around SFr 30,000 each year in grants to worthy projects organized by staff, students and parents, including charitable projects.

Other activities

Producing an illustrated School Calendar, Organising welcome coffee mornings, Compiling Doctor, Dentist, Tutor and Baby sitting lists, Preparing a monthly newsletter, Organising Class Parent Committees to bridge the gap between home and school.

PTA Sub-Groups

Three sub-groups operate independently under the umbrella of the PTA:   Practical Skills Club, Sports Booster Club and Performing Arts Development Group

The Campus Development Group

The CDG is a representative advisory body composed of the campus principals and elected teacher, parent and student representatives. Its purpose is to advise and support the Principals of the campus in their task of organizing educational programs with the governing Board's policies.

The Campus Development Group (CDG) is a representative, advisory body composed of the three school principals, members of the Governing Board, students, staff and parent representatives, and the President of the PTA. The CDG looks to the future of the school and studies various needs and interests of the school, formulating proposals for action by the Board or directly by the Principals, often in response to initiatives from parents and staff. Recent initiatives include the plans for the building of the multi-media centre and a proposal to establish La Chat as a non-smoking campus.

The CDG meets about once per month, agendas and minutes of the meetings are held at Secondary Reception and on the campus Intranet. The CDG encourages all of us to come forward with ideas, initiatives and proposals on matters that concern us in the school community.
